in County

I’ve picked my team best equipped to beat Leitrim on Saturday night.

Check it out here!

 Selections Explained below:

Defence
Our full back line will be in for major reconstructing that’s a given but who comes in for our regular full back Reilly will be hard to know…

I’ve gone with Darren O’Hanlon from the Pats where he plays consistently with them.
Also, he could be an option going forward, Dessie could easily start there either but he hasn’t played full back at all this season under Kelly.

Kevin Toner should make his championship debut too, he was solid in the league and suspended the last day having O’Hanlon beside him will help.
So its more or less a Pats full back line with Pop Rath the odd man out.

HBL

Anthony Williams played corner back the last day and he will be more comfortable wing back him and Reido will look to launch attacks from wing back.

With Decky anchoring at Centre back.
He can sit, hold the middle, make hits and spray the ball from there. best candidate we have to play the position.

Defence:
That’s a tight and solid full back line no frills and will let their football do the talking.
Further out, we have the half back line to power forward and pace to drop off and help out the fullback line without them getting too exposed.
It may be slightly attacking but if our manager doesn’t want to play with caution why should I?

Middle of the field:
I’d go with the same midfield that started the last day.
They performed well so they should be rewarded.
but CK said they struggled there all year, true but I’m getting to that in a minute.

Junior call ups
Size -Size -Size
Peach and Jim come in from junior team and they add size and Kick-out options.
Throw Eoin O’Connor on the wing and he provides the same variation.
It gives Gally the best chance to hit Louth Targets.
It relieves all three of them of responsibility of holding the middle O’Connor especially. He can now bomb forward and drift into the game at his leisure.

Inside line
If we pack the middle we leave space inside one thing we didn’t have in the league was good foot passers we had a lot of runners.
Jim and Peach are the best about which bodes well for Conor Grimes and Burnsey.
If we provide them some better service they will benefit and Louth will win.

Speaking of those two, The pressure needs to be taken off the youngsters big time.
Pushing Colm Judge further up gives their defence something to think about and takes the weigh off their young shoulders while Judge returns to his most natural position.

The bench
Tired legs and momentum off the bench is crucial  in a qualifier look at Laois losing to Antrim for example.
In Derek Maguire, Ruairi Moore, Dessie, Conall McKeever, Pepe and Gea McSorley we have pace, power and experience to make a massive impact.

well what do you think??? Let me know Below

My intention in not to be harsh on any player wearing the red jersey at any level but work rate alone will win us nothing. It is also a thing called Ability that separates players of just work rate from great players.Bevan Duffy has hardly won 1 kick out in either the league or the championship game.If we can’t win our own kickouts against Leitrim then Saturday night will be a futile exercise.

Harsh on Bevan…very very harsh.
His workrate is 2nd to none!

Bevan Duffy should’nt be anywhere near the team ! Better off putting Califf in there,he is not the quickest but at least he has a chance of high balls & goal kicks something Duffy hasn’t done all year !

I’m sorry but Crouchy is a mile better than gally…

louthandproud June 24, 2015 at 3:26 pm

Gallys our number 1 but Craig Lynch could possibly be thrown in and do a job!

louthandproud June 24, 2015 at 3:24 pm

Thanks for that Lordshipchamps

You are very harsh on some players there….Williams is only in his 1st season!

Brodigan left the panel earlier in the season with a lack of gametime.

Williams is just not up to it but he’s the sole optionit. Byrne only performs as a forward. Duffy is just awful midfield and califf is too slow for wing.
Where is brodigan? The only man I’ve seen or played against this year in the county who can do the job of a midfielder…catch the ball!!

Kevin Toner is Suspended Louth and Proud!

First things first the goalkeeper must go . Gally was shocking against westmeath and Craig lynch from monasterboice would be better.

having played against Conor Grimes this year it’s crazy to see how he isn’t being used in midfield. Have never seen a man so big move so quick. In a team lacking in physicality, especially in midfield, he simply has to be used there.
