I’ll pick my team to face Meath on Sunday, Can you pick yours?

We have to remember that the League is the be all and end all. we don’t want to end up in Division 4 again next year!
So while we play a strong team we need to test the new lads and see players fare in unfamiliar positions.

Sunday is the perfect laboratory for league experimentation.

Joe Flanagan

Throw the Raths man in and if he can he handle it. I think he can. His short kick outs are good and could suit the way we want to play this year. If he performs Craig Lynch could be under extreme pressure.

Full Back Line

Pop, Paddy Reilly, Kevin Carr
Pop is playing more out the field each game interested to see does Meath cop it. While Paddy Reilly will look to recalibrate himself before big NFL sharpshooters come. Kevin Carr is there on merit and great opportunity to see how capable he is at this early stage of his career.
No harm to have a regular set last line of defence either.

Derek Maguire
Still only getting into the position really himself and a top level forward line to cover will sharpen him no end.

Half Back Line

Decky Byrne, James Stewart,Anthony Williams
AW has been is serious form so far in 2017. Decky sits back in as usual and James Stewart will look to renew his marking job of Graham Reilly. At this level centre back suits him down to the ground too.

Conor Martin, Peach Califf
Peach is our number one midfielder and he’ll look to take on Cian O’Brien again after Parnell Park last summer. Conor SOM midfielder Martin has put his hand up and deserves to hold his place. Sunday could be make or break for him.

Half Forward Line

Conall McKeever,Pepe Smith,Bevan Duffy
Pepe has held the number 11 like it is his for the league. With Andy and Eoin O’Connor to come back into the mix. If he does well on the forty Sunday then the jersey will be his. McKeever and Bevan are chief workhorses in the pecking order but there is plenty there to replace them if they slip up. Brannigan,Reido,Moore et al.

Full Forward Line

Jim McEneaney,Derek Crilly
Jim needs a start and Sunday’s extra game provides it. Louth could use him a ploy, where he swaps in and out with Pepe throughout the game too. Both are comfortable inside and creating out deeper.
If Kelly is seriously thinking of playing Crilly at 14 for the Laois game then why not asses it with a big Meath full back hanging out of him.

You picked peach in midfield? Did you not go to Parnell park last year when he couldn’t live with the pace of the game.He isn’t quick enough for intercounty football.Tommy durnin has been steady against Westmeath & Carlow he’s the obvious choice and he will start on Sunday ahead of both peach and Martin. Not sure about Jim mac starting can frustrate ya at times.

In my opinion I wouldn’t have Peach as our no1 midfielder. He’s a big guy granted but is too nice not nearly aggressive enough. I’d pair J Stewart and C Martin. Stewart is very fit and while Martin is no slouch he is a big physical guy who loves getting tackles and hits in. Could be a good combo
