Qualifiers Preview: Derry

6 day turnaround.

Still a mighty long week.

Opposition Report

Derry named their team last night and it’s looks pretty compromising (on paper).

C Mullan-Young; G McKinless, C Mullan, K McKaigue; L McGoldrick, B Rogers, N Forester; C McAtamney, N Holly; D Heavron, C Bradley, E Brown; J Kielt, E McGuckin, M Lynch.

Look out for Slaughtneil duo Brendan Rogers at 6 and Chrissy Bradley on the forty. Two top class operators that drove them to an all-Ireland club final last year.
Their full forward line boasts tons of class too. The trio of Kielt, McGuckian and Lynch are massive and powerul men and will look to give our defence no respite after last Sunday’s game.
It will be a nice test for Paddy Reilly at full back who will arguably mark the best full forward of the season tomorrow night in McGuckian.

Niall Holly and Peach will be a good battle of extremely tall midfield superiority.

Back to reason I said on paper in brackets above is because, despite being a division 2 side with all these quality players they never seem to mesh well on the pitch.

That gives us hope.

Our Lads

With a reported 8 on the treatment table, Our starting fifteen will be a very much a changed outfit that played in the Leinster Championship and the league too.

I expect majority of the subs that came on against Meath to start the next day and we could ironically end up with a better balanced team as a result.

Give youth and debutants a chance to shine tomorrow.
Throw them in I say.

Nothing to lose

The expectations are at an all time low tomorrow. Kelly has all but said to the public that the 6 day turnaround will be too much for us. Wether he’s getting his excuses in early or else its the perect pitch to motivate our lads and stick it to the GAA.

The positive of all this is, pressure’s off, we can go out and just play, unlike we did last week where we overthought the game completely.
Joint manager Paddy Crozier is a Derry man afterall, he’ll know their lads inside out so we won’t be sprung any surprises.
We seen already this year how they struggled with a mass defence from Tyrone. Tyrone we are not, but we can still cause Derry problems.

In the spirit of the euro’s we’ll ‘give it a lash jack’ but I can’t see us getting over the line.
