To face London on Sunday

In the goals

1. Craig Lynch
Pushed all the way by Neil Gallagher the Monasterboice man has the jersey on merit after his excellent performances against Kildare and Meath in the O’Byrne cup.

Full Back line

2. Pop Rath
3. Paddy Reilly
4. Kevin Toner
Familiar enough selections here…our 2015 full back line!
Pop is a first name on the team sheet player for us. Mr Consistent. Kevin Toner also safe and steady as the other corner back too. Kurt Murphy and Anthony Williams are there as cover if they do have an unusual lapse. This game might have come too soon for Williams.
At Full back, Paddy Reilly is first choice and has a battle on his hands to perform to keep his jersey with rookies David Quigley and Davy Finn chomping at the bit to get a run. Quigley will feel unlucky as he has done nothing out of place while wearing the number 3 jersey.
Reilly handled the physicality of Fermanagh’s Seamus Quigley well last season and with Lorcan Mulvey his direct opponent this Sunday for London this confirms my reason for selection.

Derek Maguire
A designated position for us this season under the new system. Derek Maguire fits the bill so far.
Pace, power and can drive out of the defence on the solo run. The young Irelanders is also revelling in the responsibility of the role also.

Half Back Line

10. Declan Byrne
6. Darren McMahon
7. Keith McLoughlin

Not one but two Mochta’s men in the Louth Half back line.
Declan Byrne drops back into the line for Derek Maguire and it suits his game very well. He can drive forward from there as we know he can but what is reassuring for him and us is that he will always have cover if the move breaks down.
That’s why I’ve gone for Keith McLoughlin ahead of Eoghan Lafferty. Keith likes to drive forward a lot more Lafferty and under the system we need players more suited to counter attacking.
Big game for McMahon on Sunday starting in his first national league game. He’s looked very assured so far. I’ve no doubt he’ll continue to look assured in the number 6 role.

8. Tommy Durnin
9. James Stewart

Such was the competition for places in the squad we now have 5 midfielders to pick from!
James Califf just misses out while the game comes too soon for the returning Brian Donnelly and Daniel O’Connell has been pushed back down the pecking order.

Tommy Durnin’s form has been excellent so far this season on the scoreboard, around the park and competing in the air. He’s improved so much since he’s joined the panel in one year. James Stewart gets the nod to partner him. He’s the runner and brings the athleticism to our middle sector. The fact they complement each other makes them a very dynamic pairing. Peach’s free taking could be a factor in selection but it’s between him and Tommy D for that other midfield slot as they are quite similar in the way they play.

Half Forward Line

13. Adrian Reid
11. Jim McEneaney
12. Conall McKeever

Two strong runners on the flanks with the sole purpose is to get through a savage amount of work for the team. Getting back and filling up the space, linking the ball from defence to attack and then being an outlet breaking out of defence. Reido has done the role all season and McKeever has showed great form as well this season his strong solo runs have won us a lot of free’s and positioning up the pitch. Although Conall has played on the forty he should make the switch across the line no problem.

Jim starts on the forty, his vision and kick passing are key to unlocking defences. He will get on the scoreboard from there also but finding our two inside will be his key role.

Full Forward Line

14. Conor Grimes
15. Ryan Burns

If fit, these two start, simple as that.
These two are the perfect combination if we are to play two up top. Size and strength with accuracy and skill.
Both lads have been carrying knocks even if they are not 100% I’d risk the London game to get them up to speed. Wouldn’t you?
If not fit, we could see and I’d go with Jim inside along with Colm Judge while Conall starts on the forty and Cathal Bellew stays on the wing.

That’s my team in full there…what do you make of it?? Let me know below.

Pretty good team ok,the only change I might like to see is……If Califf is fit I would rather him in the middle with Stewart instead of Durnin…..and in the half forward line I would probably rather Judge over McKeever if he is fit……..But your team is solid and the main thing is a good start to the NFL with a win over London.
