Wicklow Recap

by louthandproud on February 29, 2016

in County

well, we well and truly passed the Wicklow test

but what does it mean going forward? recap here

Big statement
We are Promotion contenders and dare I say it favourites?

The manner of victory spoke volumes.

We were clinicial, ruthless and the performance was professional.

The system is working, we completely stifled a bluntest of blunt Wicklow attacks.

Sure, they couldn’t shoot or hit free’s but we forced them into those positions and kept them pointless in the second half that deserves alot of credit.

Tougher days will come but we now can trust this defensive system more and more for those days.

James Stewart is growing in the role of the dynamic modern day midfielder every time he pulls on a red and white jersey. He was strong and got through a massive amount of work around the big golf fairway that is the Gaelic Grounds.

Burnsey up front gives us this team confidence.
Like a good number 10 in rugby he’ll keep the scoreboard ticking over and punish the opposition with accuracy. It was death by free kicks for Wicklo yesterday and Burnsey fully obliged.

Special mention for Ronan Holcroft, The Fechins man was our best forward yesterday, he stood up and was everywhere, a constant thorn in Wicklows side and his business was a great outlet for us too. Credit to him he’s worked on his game no end, and you can see it in his club too. he’s dragged the Fechins to Division 1 league and they’re knocking on the senior championship door too.
Hard to see him being pushed out of the side with the honesty in his play.

Leitrim neXt
6 from 6, our team is getting stronger with options to come in too.

More importantly, we now have the momentum.

We’ll bring that to Carrick-on-Shannon next Sunday.

Schedule for the week.
Tuesday-The opposition
Wednesday-My Team
Thursday-Throw back Thursday
Friday-Team Reaction & Match Preview

In all fairness Wicklow were a joke and about 2 of there players actually looked like they could play football!!!I fully expect Louth to beat Leitrim and Carlow but the big tests are Wexford and Antrim……………And Antrim are the favourites at 10/11 then Louth joint second at 5/2……Certainly more realistic

We beat another inter county team by 10 points…we conceded only 3 scores all game…an entire second half with no points conceded.

We could and should have 10 points on the board before we even play Antrim or Wexford in the last two games and we’ve Wexford at home so I don’t think i’m wrong to say we are favourites.

Your going a bit over the top now we certainly weren’t clinical or ruthless but we got the win!!!As for the favourites tag? are you serious? Antrim,Wexford then louth!!!

I agree with you we did miss goal chances in the first half but in terms of attitude and approach to the game we were quite ruthless. Clinical in defence I suppose I meant.

Holcroft took the game to Wicklow when others were not, he can be greedy at times but aren’t most forwards!
We needed someone to step up and take responsibility in the forwards and he did that, another day in this promotion push someone else will.

Toner was very solid and great block at the end to make up for his penalty give away.Improving all the time.

I don’t think Grimes comes straight in now…unless John Bingham gets pushed out. Keep the winning team and this habit going.

I don’t think we were clinical or ruthless to be honest. We should have converted more chances up front and only for their wayward shooting we could have been in bother? We had some excellent performances though, James Stewart stood out. I don’t fully agree with Holcroft praise, although he got a lot of ball, he doesn’t seem to bring any of the other forwards into play, hes a bit too greedy and it cost us scores yesterday do you not think? Who will grimes come in for next week? Toner was very good also! Winning habit tough to break.
