who do we or what do we have to be aware of on Saturday Night?

Laois have lost three big names for this game on paper anyway.
Full back Mark Timmons, Midfielder Brendan Quigley and forward Paul Cahillane.
I say on paper because these 3lads never really fared that well against us especially Timmons at full back.
Injury Update:
John O’Loughlin, Damien O’Connor and Evan O’Carroll are out with injuries for our game.

They like ourselves have a number of returnee’s back into the fold like us will boost their squad.
Denis Booth, Padraig McMahon, James Finn, Sean Ramsbottom and Ambrose Doran.
Booth will play at full back and is quite the solid player.

Creedo’s Way

New Manager Peter Creedon has not only been appointed Senior manager but more of a director of Laois football!
He is also over the U21’s and has a say on the minor team as well.
Reports are the former Tipp man is really liked by the Laois players and after the shambles of Mick Lillis last season they should be in a much better place.
Creedon had the players at his disposal when he was over a Tipp team that destroyed us in the qualifiers, but his views on how his teams play the game remain. Very open, expansive and emphasis is very much on attacking.

Donie Kingston is the chief scorer they rely on.
Big man at the edge of the square can come out the field and orchestrate things too but he’s most dangerous closer to goals. He’s not blessed with pace off the mark so his supply will need to be good.
Stopping his supply is key because once he gets the ball he has a long stride and very hard to dispossess.
Once he usually getting his shot away it more than likely on target.

Who else to stop

I mentioned in the NFL in a Nutshell post earlier in the week that Laois’s defence might surprise a few people. Looking down through there players it most likely will!!

Darren Strong is a free scoring corner back yes you read that correctly, Alan Farrell is making a name for himself too while Colm Begley is back in his best position left half back. He’ll really have to be watched driving forward by Decky.

Up top Louth U21’s from last year will remember Evan O’Carroll and Sean Moore both could well make names for themselves this year. Gary Walsh is big forward and has the potential to be hard to handle.

In case you are wondering Ross Munnelly is still knocking about too!
