in County

Louth drew first blood against Kildare last night

but looking ahead to the 8th of June Clash

here’s what I have to report

Firstly, Judging by last nights game both counties panels possess alot of quality strength in depth.
However even on paper you could tell Louth had a bunch of more talented reserves.

We had a number of U21’s, minors and current panelists and recent panelists but It was one of the independents, non capped players that impressed me (and most of the crowd) last night.

Prospect Report

That was Gaels man Gerard ‘Gea’ McSorley he was for me the reason Louth won the game, He caused Kildare a whole host of problem’s.
Why?
because of his pace and he has bags of it!
He won the penalty before half time, kicked the score of the game but his general play was a pleasure to watch, he was so positive, any time he got the ball his first thought was to turn and to take on his marker.
If Meath have Eamonn Wallace we have Gea! and we seen the damage Wallace did in the wide open spaces of Croker no reason why AOR can’t let Gea do the same on the 8th.

Robert Sansom in goals was another good find, has the presence and vocal ability to play at a higher level. His kickouts are varied and accurate. Definitely one for the future and a handy 3rd back up option to McCoy and Gallagher.

Clogher duo Anthony Williams and James Califf have a future at inter county level. Williams especially, he was able to go up the field with lung busting runs and still keep his man quiet.

Tommy Durnin was a pleasure to see, he can be really happy with his debut at this level…he did some really nice things when on the ball which leads me to a trivia time question below

All in all, it was a great team performance and testimony to their clubs for giving each of the louth players a high level of fitness. They worked really hard when they didn’t have possession and if they keep up the unity and intensity they could go on and win it out.

Looking at the Kildare, it doesn’t look like many prospects will appear in croker against us maybe Cian Bolton at a push.

Trivia Time!

who was the last player from the Westerns to play for the Louth Juniors?
